The Rocket City

Huntsville has always had a great marriage between the old and the new of America. It was the first English-speaking city in Alabama and has close ties to the American Civil War. But what it is known most for is its connection to United States space missions and the development of space technology. Because of this they are now known as Rocket City. Whether you're an architect in Toronto in town for a visit or have been living in the area for years there are certainly things to interest you in this amazing city.

The US Space and Rocket Center Space Camp is located in the city and has a number of different programs for all ages. The regular space camp program is meant for nine to eleven year olds and takes place over six days in the summer. Space Academy is the next step and is for twelve to fourteen year olds. If you're busy working every day with a pneumatic conveying system or as a contractor this could be the perfect opportunity to send your child on an adventure they will likely remember for years to come.

If you and your child would like to attend the space program together there are two options for you. There is a parent/child camp that runs for three days where you can see shuttle astronauts perform a mission and will have an opportunity to ride in an aviator or the Jedi Experience is perfect for science fiction buffs. This weekend is entirely modeled after the Jedi training within the Star Wars films and could be the perfect gift for a young child or a strapping machine manufacturer.

Huntsville is now known as the Rocket City much thanks to the global contributions of Dr. Wernher von Braun, who was a German scientist who moved to the area in 1950. Von Braun was a leading expert in the field of space technology and helped to build a space center that has provided NASA with thirty-two Saturn Spacecrafts. This number includes six that successfully landed on the moon. Space technology has influenced many other technological inventions. If you're working with a tubing cutter or some home tools, they could be versions of a design meant for space use.

The US Space and Rocket Center is the world's largest space museum and the city is also home to the United States Army Aviation and Missile Command, which is located at Redstone Arsenal. This facility is responsible for the management of the country's army missiles, helicopters, unmanned ground vehicles, and unmanned aerial vehicle weapon systems. If you're currently working in SEO Canada or in Florida you will not likely find a place that is more closely linked to the skies than Huntsville.
