Privilege License

Despite recent economic gains, it's still a recession. Many people are still having trouble finding work. If you've found that it's not so easy to find a job making automated packaging equipment in a factory, you may have decided to start your own business. Now that you're moving to Huntsville, Alabama, it only makes sense for you to take your business with you instead of selling it and struggling to find a job in a new city. Before you do so, however, you'll need to do a few things, including get a privilege license. We'll explain it all in this guide.

The Privilege License is the city of Huntsville's way of making sure no unsavory businesses are allowed to operate in their jurisdiction. It is also a way of filling the city's coffers, since the privilege license must be renewed annually and accompanied by your privilege tax. If you think this is too much trouble to go through for your Ontario franchise, then you had better get started finding a job, because you can't run a business legally in Huntsville without a license.

Pretty much anyone who is self employed requires a privilege license to ply their trade in Huntsville. That includes restauranteurs, building contractors, taxi drivers, buskers, nannies, factory owners, shopkeepers, and more. Even a lawyer in Burlington would need to apply for a license before he could open up a practice in Huntsville. Even if your business is based outside the city, if you have to come to the city to conduct any business, you still need to pay the tax, but you don't need to get the license.

To get the license that gives you permission to make concrete radiation shielding in your factory or rewire people's kitchens, you need to fill out an Annual Privilege License Approval Form, submit it to the city, and pay the licensing fee. You will have to have your premises inspected for zoning violations, fire and safety compliance, and value. Then you will be asked to fill out the annual tax return and pay your taxes on the business each year. The application forms are different depending on whether you have a home based or commercial business and the tax forms are different if you're a building contractor or insurance company.

This is all that is required of most businesses, such as a shop that sells cloth diapers or a dance studio. However, certain types of businesses require special licenses. If you want to hold Bingo or serve alcohol on your premises you need to get a license and pay another $100 fee. If you want to serve food, you first have to get a permit from the county health department. You also need extra certification if you want to drive a taxi or run a building contract business.
