Huntsville City Schools District holds most of the schools in the Huntsville area, consisting of 29 elementary schools, 12 middle schools, and 7 high schools. Within the previously mentioned schools are 2 elementary-middle magnet schools (Academy for Academics and Arts, Academy for Science and Foreign Language) which cover the grades for both elementary and middle school, 1 magnet middle school (Williams Technology), and 2 magnet high schools (New Century Technology, Lee). About 21 private, parochial, and religious schools also serve students ages pre-K-12.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville, also known as UAH, is organized in five colleges: business, engineering, liberal arts, nursing and science. UAH freshmen have an average score of 25 on the ACT, which is one of the best among Alabama's public universities. Huntsville's other higher educational institutions include Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU), Oakwood College, and J.F. Drake State Technical College. Numerous colleges and universities have satellite locations or extensions in Huntsville, as well, and Huntsville Hospital has an accredited school of radiologic technology.
